Being gluten free can be so darn stressful when eating out, not to mention the reactions you get from restaurant staff when asking questions.  Here at Holy Moses Tavern, WE WANT YOU TO ASK, TO HELP SET YOUR MIND AT

EASE! Below you will find answers to our most frequent, gluten-related questions.  If you need further information,

please do not hesitate to ask! Your safety is our top priority and we are happy to help any way that we can.

MOST ASKED QUESTION OF ALL - Why did you decide to become a gluten free restaurant?

ANSWER - The owner, Angela Moses, is gluten freeand knows the struggle of eating out all too well. Her goal was to create a gluten free safe haven, where Gluten Free people could eat and not worry!  At Holy Moses Tavern, there are no eye rolls and attitude from the staff when you order, you can eat everything on the menu (not just salad or pizza), and you won't pay double the price for half the portion sizes!  Here, you are just a regular customer, enjoying the same delicious food, without judgement, and no concerns about how you will feel tomorrow. 

Food Related Questions

Do you use Gluten-based flour in your products?

The only flour used in our kitchen is Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Flour.  Any products that are made with gluten based flour, are delivered frozen to reduce any risk of air borne contamination.

Are your gluten food products separated from the gluten free products?

Yes! All of our gluten free products are completely separated.  We have a separate freezer and storage area, as well as gluten free specific contamination-proof containers to store our products.

How do you have food items that aren't offered GF anywhere else?

Before opening the restaurant, we looked everywhere for the best tasting gluten free products we could find.  However, several of the regular fried food staples a bar typically has, are still not available gluten free yet unfortunately.  So we started making our own!  Several of our items are made from scratch in-house by the owners.  They created a multi-use fry batter to be able to bring you all of your pub favorites, such as our Onion Rings.

​ ​ Are all of your food products available Gluten Free?

The only item not currently available gluten free on our menu is the Carolina Gold Wing Sauce.  It currently does not have a gluten free version, however the owners are working on creating one, so stay tuned!

How do I know my food is gluten free when it comes out?

We have "No Gluten" food sticks to reassure you.  If an item comes out without one, feel free to double check with the bartender first!  Occasionally the kitchen staff will just forget to put one in because they are eager to get the food out to you while its still hot.

Cross-Contamination Issues

Do you have a dedicated separate fryer and cooking equipment?

YES! We have a separate contamination-free fryer for our gluten free customers.  We also have a separate pizza oven as well.

Do you prepare food on a separate counter, with separate utensils/equip?

YES! We have a contamination free area in the kitchen, with its own utensils/equipment.  This means you no longer have to worry about your pizza being contaminated when cut, or even chicken wings being sauced in a contaminated bowl.

Is there a risk of air borne contamination with gluten based flour?

NO!  Absolutely  no gluten-based flour is used in the making of our food products.  Any food product that is made from scratch, is made with only Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Flour.  Any Gluten Flour based products not produced by us, are delivered already frozen and bagged.

Are your employees trained to prevent cross contamination?

YES! All of our employees have been educated and trained in cross contamination prevention techniques.  We are continually updating our procedures, and providing more information to them regularly as well.  Your safety will always be our top priority!

Please keep in mind wait times can vary due to having only one contamination free fryer and pizza oven. Large groups are encouraged to call in advance to reduce wait times.
